Il surplombe l’ancienne Mairie de Cadenet, qui se trouvait au premier étage de la rue Danton et au rez-dechaussée de la rue du Tambour d’Arcole. Lors de sa création, un virulent débat eut lieu sur la cloche à y installer. En effet, la municipalité voulait utiliser la cloche qui servait au tocsin du XVIe siècle se trouvant sur le petit clocher du château. Cependant, dans l’esprit des cadenétiens, cette cloche, qui protégeait les Cadenétiens depuis des siècles devait rester à sa place. C’est une veuve, Madame Chauvin, qui fi t don d’une forte somme pour faire fondre une nouvelle cloche pour le beffroi et construire un nouveau clocheton pour laisser l’ancienne cloche à sa place. Au rez-de-chaussée de la rue Danton se trouvait la caserne des pompiers jusque dans les années 1980. Le clocher retrouva sa vocation de tocsin, puisque qu’une sirène y fut installée.

Bell Tower. The Bell tower in Cadenet was constructed in 1885. It overlooks the old town hall, which was once located on the fi rst fl oor of rue Danton and on the ground fl oor of the rue du Tambour d’Arcole. When it was built, there was a heated debate about which bell to install. The town council suggested the bell from the small bell tower of the castle, which had been used since the 16th century to warn against danger. However, the villagers were of the opinion that the castle bell, which had been protecting them for centuries, should stay in its place. Finally, Madame Chauvin, a widow, donated a considerable sum of money to have a new bell forged and a new pinnacle was erected to keep the old castle bell in its original place. The fi re station was on the ground fl oor of rue Danton until the 1980s, and the bell tower fulfi lled its original purpose as an alarm, as it was fi tted with a siren.
