qui est bien plus ancien qu’elle, et qui était à l’origine un prieuré fortifi é du XIe siècle, bâti par les moines de l’abbaye de Saint-Victor de Marseille. De cet édifice, il ne reste rien, car il a été énormément remanié au fil des siècles. L’église, fut construite primitivement entre 1537 et

1538, et terminée le 21 mars 1838, comme l’indique la signature du maître d’oeuvre, Etienne Bone(ff ou ss)ille se trouvant sur la base du clocher. Celui-ci, jusque-là surplombé par un mur abritant les cloches, fut modifié en 1844 avec la construction du clocher actuel. L’inscription « République Française - Liberté Égalité Fraternité » fut ajoutée sous la Troisième République. La vierge en fonte trônant sur la place a été installée très probablement après 1837. Elle représente la volonté de l’Église de réévangéliser la ville de Cadenet, emmenant une série de missions, puis de jubilés successifs, durant tout le XIXe siècle.

The Church and Presbytery in Cadenet are inseparable, although the Presbytery is much older and was originally a fortifi ed priory built in the 11th century by the monks from the St Victor Abbey in Marseilles. Little remains of the original edifi ce which has been considerably altered over the centuries. An early church building was erected between 1537 and 1538 and the last alterations took place on 21st March 1838 as shown by the signature of the maître d’oeuvre, “Etienne Boneffi lle/Bonessille” to be seen at the base of the bell tower. Above it until 1844 was a wall enclosing the bells, which was then modifi ed with the construction of today’s bell tower. The inscription “Republique Française – Liberté Egalité Fraternité” was added under the Third Republic. The cast iron statue of the Virgin Mary presiding over the church square was probably installed after 1837. It is an example of an effort by the church to reinstate the Catholic faith in Cadenet, which resulted in a series of missions and successive jubilees throughout the nineteenth century.
